Stephen Hansen became interested in computer security and incident response in 1986 when, as Director of Computer Facilities for the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University he decided he wasn't going to take it anymore and started to track down a gang of individuals who kept breaking into the University's computers.

In 1994, he accepted the newly created position of Computer Security Officer at Stanford, a position he held until last year when he retired from the University, only to take postion of Information Security Officer at Google, Inc.

Stephen is a long time member of FIRST, the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams. He serves on the organization's Steering Committee and as Secretary for its Board of Directors. He has both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
