John Geurts General Manager, Group Security, Commonwealth Bank John Geurts is the Executive General Manager Group Security for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He has led the Bank's security function for 3½ years and advises executive management and the board on issues relating to security, including critical infrastructure protection and crisis management. As Chief Security Officer for the Bank, his role includes global leadership of security risk management, including investigations, financial crime, information security, protective security and crisis management. John's role is to ensure security is managed for the benefit of the Bank, its staff, customers and shareholders. In addition to requiring a sound understanding of security, this also requires a sound understanding of the business priorities to ensure that the total environment is considered when making security risk management decisions. Prior to joining the Bank, John enjoyed a 19-year career with the Australian Federal Police. John was a founding member of the Banking & Finance Sector Infrastructure Assurance Advisory Committee; is an Adviser to the Australia-Asia-Pacific Chapter of the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators (IAFCI); a member of the Joint Communications, IT & e-Commerce Sector Standards Board of Standards Australia; and a Senior Associate of the Australasian Institute of Banking & Finance.
