Jeff Wright is the Deputy Director for the Strategic Initiatives Branch of the National Cyber Security Division, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He was appointed to this position in November 2006. The Strategic Initiatives Branch focuses on National cyber risk management, risk mitigation, vulnerability reduction, and long-term planning. As the Deputy Director for Strategic Initiatives, Mr Wright oversees seven major program areas: Control Systems Security, Critical Infrastructure Protection Cyber Security, Cyber Exercises, Software Assurance, Education and Training for IT Workforce Development, Standards and Best Practices, and the Information Systems Security Line of Business. He has also served as the Cyber Exercise Program Director for the past 18 months, and was responsible for the planning and execution of several major initiatives, including the first National Cyber Exercise: Cyber Storm in February 2006. Before joining NCSD, Mr Wright worked as an information assurance consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton for three years supporting the Department of Defense's Joint Task Force-Computer Network Operations and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Networks and Information Integration where he worked primarily on policy issues and operational procedures under the Department's International Information Assurance Program. Prior to his work with Booz Allen, Mr Wright was a career Army officer serving in a wide variety of command and staff assignments in the U.S., Europe and Asia. A combat veteran, his positions included Artillery battery command, Army Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, and Strategic Intelligence Briefer for the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army at the Pentagon. Mr Wright holds an undergraduate degree from Davidson College and a Master of Public Administration degree from Cornell University. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and holds a Master Exercise Practitioner certificate from the DHS Emergency Management Institute. |
