Richard Thieme is an author, consultant, and professional speaker focused on the personal implications of technology and how to respond effectively to technology-driven change. Clients include GE Healthcare, Medtronic, Microsoft Los Alamos National Laboratory; the FBI; US Department of the Treasury; the Pentagon; Neohapsis; Network Flight Recorder; System Planning Corporation (SPC); University Research Park; Cypress Systems; Ross Systems; UOP; Institute for Applied Network Security (IANS);Psynapse; and the Technology, Literacy and Culture Distinguished Speakers Series of the University of Texas. Thieme has spoken nine times for the Black Hat Briefings (intelligence and corporate security) and Def Con, the annual computer hackers' convention. At DefCon VIII, he moderated a panel that included the Assistant Secretary of Defense, who came to dialogue with 5000 computer hackers. He was invited to moderate because, according to the National Security Agency officer who asked, "You're the only one in the room with the acceptance and respect of both the hacking community and the Feds" A collection of Thieme's well-known columns, "Islands in the Clickstream" was published by Syngress Publishing in June 2004.
