John Leiseboer has been designing and architecting commercial and military communications and information security hardware, software and systems for over thirty years. He has experience in applying conventional, classical cryptography as well as leading-edge quantum key distribution technology to innovative security product designs. John is CTO of QuintessenceLabs Pty Ltd, a startup operating on the campus of the Australian National University, developing key management, comsec and infosec products.
Real Cryptographers are Mathematicians, Beware of Everyone Else
With the advent of the digital computer, the mathematical cryptographer was born. Now physicists dare to propose cryptographic primitives rooted in the very essence of matter, rather than through mathematical trickery. Is Quantum Computing 21st century snake oil? Or will it fundamentally change cryptography forever? John Leiseboer, CTO of QuintessenceLabs, dispels some of the myths surrounding Quantum Key Distribution, describing how it works, and showing how it can be applied.
