Dealing with DDoS in the real world
Call them chaotic actors, the Russian Business Network or just criminals, DDoS is bad for business. At least for the good guys. But for the bad guys it is increasingly becoming the first tool of choice. Unhappy with a new law that's proposed? Why not bring down the site of the people who support it? Maybe you see a new business opportunity that has little downside and even less opportunity for being caught and prosecuted.
Akamai has dealt with the largest DDoS attacks in the world. Walk through the background of these attacks, learn about the steps that were taken to deal with them and what we believe may be the future of DDoS. All indications show that year over year DDoS attacks are growing in frequency, and while they may not be growing in the size of the attack, they don't need to. Smaller attacks are growing in sophistication and simply adding more bandwidth can't combat the problem.
