Sergeja is an Associate Professor in Accounting at the University of Queensland Business School. Her research focuses on internal audit, accountability, governance, and risk management in cybersecurity. Sergeja is a passionate educator and a recipient of various teaching awards, including the prestigious 2024 Australian Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, as part of the Australian Awards for University Teaching. With over 15 years of Board experience as a non-executive Director in various organizations, she has worked extensively with the Slovenian Directors Association, training over 1,000 executive and non-executive directors in accounting, finance, and cyber risk management. Sergeja is a CPA and ISACA member, a member of the Education Committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Australia, and the Auditing, Assurance, and Ethics Standards Committee at the European Accounting Association. She frequently presents her research at industry events.
